Research tracks what your account has learned about each Twisted. Current community guides document two sources: capsules linked to the Twisteds on a floor and the first encounter with each Twisted on that floor. Research reveals menu information, unlocks a Research Trinket at full completion, and gates multiple Toon licenses.
Pick one target
Open the Twisteds menu and choose the bar tied to your next license or Trinket. Write the current percentage and required result. This avoids spending several sessions collecting whatever appears without completing anything.
Incidental progress is useful, but the target gets route priority when safe. If it did not spawn, finish the floor normally; no amount of searching creates its capsules.
Capsules
Current guides report two capsules per Twisted on a floor and describe them as client-side, so each player can collect their own copy. The capsule appearance identifies the linked Twisted. Share the location rather than racing teammates.
Research Map can highlight capsules periodically. Use it on unfamiliar layouts, then replace it when route knowledge makes the slot redundant.
Encounters
A first encounter adds Research once per Twisted per floor according to community data. Plan the sighting near cover, register attention, and escape. A longer chase does not add more progress and increases team risk.
Special enemies require special routes. Do not fail a machine to attract Astro, sprint openly against Pebble, or start a Dandy shop-skip attempt without consent.
Rodger
Rodger’s Detective passive is currently documented as doubling capsule and encounter Research. His lower Movement Speed makes safe routing essential. Pair Research Map with movement, stamina, extraction, or a target-specific counter.
Unlock Rodger when multiple Research gates block the account. Before he is available, use the starter Toon you survive with most consistently.
Thresholds and rewards
Community references describe early Research revealing the Twisted identity, 50% revealing its description, and 100% awarding the corresponding Trinket. Main Toon licenses commonly require 100% on their Twisted counterpart, while other licenses use smaller or different Research gates.
Read the live menu. Event exceptions and unusual Twisteds can use different rules. Do not copy a threshold from another character.
Efficient session route
- Name the target before queueing.
- Equip information plus survival or extraction.
- Confirm the target spawned.
- Collect both safe capsules.
- Arrange one covered encounter.
- Finish machines and survive the floor.
- Check the bar after the run.
This route produces account progress and floor value. An “efficient” Research session that abandons every machine can be slower over time.
Research FAQ
How fast can Research be completed?
Community guides publish theoretical floor counts based on both capsules and the encounter, with Rodger reducing the number. Actual time depends on spawn frequency, safety, and completed runs.
Do teammates steal capsules?
Current guides describe them as client-side, so other players should not remove your copy.
What does 100% unlock?
The corresponding Research Trinket, plus satisfaction of any license gate that requires full Research.
Should I target several Twisteds?
Collect safe incidental progress, but keep one priority until its reward or license gate is complete.
Keep a target ledger
Choose one priority Twisted and write down its live percentage before a session. During each floor, collect a capsule only when the route is safe and call the encounter so the team understands why you may adjust position. After the run, compare the new percentage rather than estimating progress from memory. If the number did not change, verify that the capsule or encounter matched the intended Twisted and that the run completed normally. Rodger can improve Research efficiency according to current guides, but his benefit does not justify unsafe pickups that end the session. Switch targets when a required unlock completes, not whenever a rarer enemy appears.
