Choose a Toon by the job your next run needs, not by one undated tier list. Dandy’s World gives every playable Toon a stat profile and one or more abilities, but the practical roles—extractor, distractor, support, healer, or flexible survivor—come from how those tools fit a floor and a team. This index starts with five useful, well-documented characters and connects their unlock gates to Research, Mastery, and Ichor.
Start with the role you can perform
Tisha
A mobile all-rounder whose Tidy Up! pulse helps nearby teammates move. Her strong movement and skill-check profile can support rotations, emergency exits, or secondary extraction.
Pebble
A Main Toon built around speed, survival, and deliberate attention control. Pebble is a serious distraction project rather than a fast machine finisher.
Rodger
An accessible extractor and the central Research specialist. His doubled Research gains make him a practical bridge toward Twisted Trinkets and harder Toon licenses.
Shelly
A Main Toon with excellent Skill Check potential and an extraction-support identity. Her license connects directly to Twisted Shelly Research and Tisha Mastery.
Vee
A powerful extraction-oriented Main Toon with information utility. Low mobility means route knowledge and teammate protection matter as much as machine speed.
These are not five places in an absolute ranking. Tisha can contribute to machines but does not replace a dedicated extractor. Pebble can control pressure but needs space and disciplined aggro. Rodger advances an account even when he is not the final deep-run choice. Shelly and Vee demand larger unlock projects and reward teams that understand their narrower strengths.
Read a Toon stat profile as tradeoffs
Every star moved into one category comes from the same limited profile. Movement Speed affects how comfortably a Toon rotates and escapes; Stamina determines how long sprint pressure can be sustained; Stealth influences which nearby player a Twisted is likely to prefer; Extraction Speed and Skill Check both shape machine contribution, but in different ways.
A high extraction value gives steady progress. Strong Skill Check performance can add bursts when the player lands checks. Neither protects a Toon who chose a dead-end machine, ignored a nearby patrol, or spent all stamina before Panic Mode. Use stats to predict a job, then judge the map and your own execution.
Health also changes risk tolerance. A Toon with fewer Hearts cannot treat one mistake as harmless, even if their machine contribution is excellent. Conversely, a durable or fast Toon should not automatically distract when the player is unfamiliar with line-of-sight breaks. The best pick is one whose weakness you can actively manage.
Toon unlock routes
Regular Toon licenses may ask for Ichor and a smaller Research condition. Main Toon licenses commonly stack three gates: a large Ichor cost, full Research on the corresponding Twisted, and completion of another Toon’s Mastery. The live store owns the exact current requirements, so open the license before starting a long grind.
For the five guides here, the current community route is straightforward:
- Tisha is an early Ichor purchase and a useful character for learning movement support.
- Rodger combines an Ichor purchase with a Research prerequisite and then accelerates future Research.
- Pebble pairs a major Ichor investment with Twisted Pebble Research and Toodles Mastery.
- Shelly pairs Twisted Shelly Research with Tisha Mastery.
- Vee pairs Twisted Vee Research with Brightney Mastery.
Do not begin all three Main Toon projects simultaneously. Pick one target, confirm every license gate, and route ordinary runs toward the matching Research capsules and prerequisite Mastery. Keep an Ichor reserve until the license panel agrees with the guide.
Build around the floor job
An extractor needs safe machine access, a way to survive interruptions, and Trinkets that improve the part of extraction they actually use. A distractor needs movement, stamina discipline, a readable loop, and teammates who will not unintentionally steal aggro. Support needs awareness: using a pulse when nobody is in range is the same as wasting it.
Solo play changes those priorities. There is nobody else to isolate pressure or cover a machine, so a very specialized support kit loses value while survival and self-sufficient progress gain value. In a coordinated squad, specialism is stronger because another player can cover the missing job.
Before the elevator closes, say what you intend to do. “I can extract,” “I will distract,” or “I am collecting Research for this Twisted” gives teammates useful information. A community role label is not a rule, but shared expectations prevent several players from competing for the same machine or chase route.
Abilities, cooldowns, and timing
An active ability is valuable only when its timing changes an outcome. Save movement support for a teammate crossing a dangerous gap or returning during Panic Mode. Use information tools early enough that the team can react. If an ability attracts attention, call it before activating so a nearby extractor is not surprised.
Ability use can also connect to Mastery and ordinary account earnings. That creates a temptation to press on cooldown without regard to the floor. Complete tasks deliberately, but never turn a Mastery counter into an excuse to disrupt a chase or reveal a machine.
Current numerical effects, ranges, and cooldowns can change. Each focused guide explains the community-reported function and the play decision it supports; the live character panel is the final authority for exact values.
A practical comparison test
Run two or three familiar early floors with a new Toon before buying a build around them. Record how often stamina became the limit, whether Skill Checks felt comfortable, which machines were unsafe, and whether the ability changed a real decision. Then choose Trinkets to repair the observed weakness or amplify the reliable strength.
Do not judge an unfamiliar Toon from one deep-run failure. A bad spawn, unknown Twisted, or team collision can hide the kit’s value. Likewise, do not call a Toon “best” because one clean lobby made the job easy. Repeat the same role on several layouts.
Toon index FAQ
How many Toons are in Dandy’s World?
Current public sources use different totals depending on whether event, special, or unavailable characters count. This index avoids freezing a disputed total and clearly labels the five focused guides it currently documents.
What is the best Toon for beginners?
Choose a license you can obtain and a job you can practice. Tisha offers useful mobility support; Rodger is attractive once Research becomes the account bottleneck. A starter can still learn the core loop before either purchase.
Is Pebble the best distractor?
Pebble is a strong distraction project because of speed and an attention-oriented kit, but player routing, floor geometry, stamina use, and team behavior decide whether that strength becomes a safe chase.
Which Toon should I unlock first?
Confirm your next gate. If Research blocks several goals, work toward Rodger. If a Main Toon is the clear target, begin its Research and prerequisite Mastery before hoarding blindly.
