Research Trinket Builds

Use Research Map, Rodger and a survival or extraction second slot to find target capsules, register safe encounters and still complete floors.

A Research build should help you find the correct capsules and survive the encounter without turning the entire run into a search. Current community references document Research Map as periodically highlighting capsules, while Rodger doubles Research gains. Pair the information tool with the stat that keeps your particular route functional.

Evidence: Research Map's highlight role, Rodger's passive, capsule behavior, and Research thresholds are Community corroborated by current independent and community-maintained guides checked 2026-08-08. Confirm current timings and percentages in game.

Name the target before the elevator

Open the Twisteds menu and identify the Research bar blocking a Toon or Trinket. Write the name in chat when coordination helps. A build cannot target “Research in general” efficiently because capsules belong to the Twisteds that spawned.

When the target is absent, finish normal progression. Collect useful capsules along the route, but do not hold the lobby indefinitely. A later spawn is more efficient than searching a floor for an entity that is not there.

Research Map plus survival

Research Map is most useful on unfamiliar, large, or visually confusing layouts. The periodic highlight reduces missed capsules but does not make the route safe. Pair it with movement or stamina when the target Twisted is fast or Rodger struggles to leave rooms.

This pair suits a player whose main failure is dying during the search. Use the highlight to choose a route, not to sprint blindly toward an icon through unknown patrols.

Research Map plus extraction

On familiar floors with team protection, pair the map with Wrench, Machine Manual, or another machine option. Rodger can collect capsules between safe machines and still contribute heavily to floor completion.

Do not remain on a threatened station for one more check. Research progress is valuable only when the run continues long enough to produce more target spawns.

When to remove Research Map

If you already know capsule spawn locations and consistently find both without the highlight, the slot may be redundant. Replace it with movement, extraction, or a counter to the target Twisted. Test the change on comparable layouts.

The map is also less useful when the target did not spawn. Do not keep a fixed Research loadout for every ordinary session if another goal becomes more important.

Safe encounter operation

Collect capsules first when possible, then plan one controlled sighting near cover. Call the target location. Register the encounter, break line of sight, and move away from machines.

Never create a failed Skill Check to attract Astro or another sound-reactive enemy. Never force Twisted Pebble into an open chase. Never begin a Dandy shop-skip route without group consent. The target’s counter guide is part of the Research build.

Progress review

Check the Twisteds menu after the run. Record how much the target moved, whether both capsules were collected, and which part of the route failed. If search time was low but escape failed, change the second slot. If survival was easy but capsules were missed, keep the map.

At 100%, verify the unlocked Trinket before changing projects. Then choose the next license or build that benefits the account instead of spreading progress across every Twisted.

Research build FAQ

Is Research Map required?

No. It is an information convenience. Experienced players on familiar layouts may get more value from another slot.

What is the best second slot for Rodger?

Movement or stamina when escape is the problem; extraction when routes are safe; a specific counter when the target Twisted applies a disruptive effect.

Do teammates take my capsules?

Current community documentation describes Research capsules as client-side, so another player’s pickup should remain available to you.

Should I farm several Twisteds at once?

Collect convenient progress, but keep one named priority so a license or Trinket reaches completion.

Test the loadout against the bottleneck

Use one session to identify why Research attempts fail. If capsules are missed, improve information and route coverage. If encounters end in elimination, replace a convenience effect with movement, stamina, or recovery. If the target rarely appears, protect run consistency instead of building around a single encounter. Change only one slot at a time and compare completed floors plus target progress after several runs. This makes the result attributable to the Trinket rather than a different team or lucky layout. The best Research loadout is the one that converts opportunities into safely recorded progress.
